Maxwell Elementary students are eligible to participate in ASES; however, enrollment priority is given to students who have an identified academic need in English Language (ELA). The criteria used to determine academic need were a score of "Basic" in ELA on the California Standards Test (CST), teacher referral, and parent request. Parents/guardians of students who scored at the Basic Level in the CST were mailed a student enrollment letter for the 2009-2010 academic year. Teacher referrals and parents requests for enrollment are placed on a student wait list, which is continually updated throughout the 2010-2011 academic year.
ASES students are expected to attend the program for three hours per day when the regular instructional day is in session, unless an early release agreement has been aproved by parents and the ASES Program Coordinator. Early release from the program is determined on a case-by-case basis. Poor attendance and poor student behavior will result in expulsion from the program.
